Moldavia Jomanda visited Moldavia, a country situated between Russia and the Ukraine. She went to several orphanages and boarding schools to see what they needed. In one orphanage or example, the toilet is outside. It's a hole in the ground. There is no toilet paper, no bathroom and...very little water. When it freezes during the night the heating is switched on, but the government determines when the heating is allowed to be used. The corridors are vaults so it's very cold there. The children wear woolly hats, worn shoes and clothes with holes in them.

They need materials like wool, so they can learn to make warm clothes. After Jomanda lays her hand on the children you see a look of surprise in their eyes, because they seem to feel something. A little girl sits down and starts crying while clutching the cuddly toy and medallion she has just received. In the next orphanage which Jomanda visited there is a completely different atmosphere. The little girls wear big bows in their hair and the little boys wear neat trousers. They sing and dance to show their gratitude for Jomanda's visit. The place looks very neat, but the washing machine has broken down.There is no money for a new one and the washing has to be done every day. They are to receive a washing machine from Jomanda's World Children.
Everyone is very happy to hear this news. In the last orphanage Jomanda visited, there were many sick children and some of them still wet their beds. They desperately needed new bedclothes and Jomanda's World Children will supply these. When Jomanda was about to leave, a little boy opened the door for her and proudly showed the cuddly toy he had received. 400 orphans can now hopefully sleep better with Jomanda's energized card under their pillow or a cuddly toy in their bed.
